Courtney LaPlante has released her first signature vocal plugin, a modular suite built with MixWave around the processing chain behind SPIRITBOX's vocal sound.
The development timeline is the detail worth noting. "We've been developing this idea together since 2021," LaPlante said — five years, which is a long time for a signature product and suggests something other than a licensing exercise. "I've always dreamed of having one plugin that has everything I need, so I can focus on my performance on stage, and my creativity in the studio. I hope you can feel all the love and care that went into it."
Rather than bottling one fixed vocal sound, MixWave: Courtney LaPlante bundles seven processing modules that can be freely reordered: Pitch, Distortion, Compression, Modulation, Reverb, Delay and Line Amplifier. That covers the ground from subtle dynamic control and harmonic saturation through to dramatic pitch processing, large ambience and cascading delays — which is roughly the range LaPlante herself works across, moving between delicate melodies, towering cleans and full screams within single songs.
The rearrangeable signal chain is the functional argument. Order matters enormously in vocal processing, and a fixed chain locks the user into someone else's decisions. Here the intent is that users can either follow LaPlante's approach or rebuild the chain entirely around their own voice.
She demonstrated it with a one-take vocal playthrough of "Keep Sweet", running the plugin across the full range of the performance rather than a curated section.
MixWave: Courtney LaPlante is out now at an introductory $79, rising to a regular price of $139. Owners of the existing MixWave: Mike Stringer plugin — built with LaPlante's SPIRITBOX bandmate and husband — can buy it for $69.
SPIRITBOX have had a remarkable few years. "Eternal Blue" debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200; the "Fear Of Fear" EP earned back-to-back Grammy nominations with "Jaded" in 2024 and "Cellar Door" in 2025; and crossover work with Megan Thee Stallion on the "Cobra" remix and "TYG" pushed the band into places heavy bands rarely reach. Their 2025 second album "Tsunami Sea", released through Pale Chord and Rise Records, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums chart.
The band head out on a European arena tour in September with JINJER and DYING WISH.
