DERRICK GREEN has begun sketching out the sound of his next band, describing a direction that keeps SEPULTURA's heaviness while pushing further into melody than his old band typically allowed. "I definitely would love it to be as heavy, but at the same time a lot more melodical," Green said, outlining a mix of clean singing and screaming built on a groove-oriented foundation, folded in with the hardcore influences he's carried since before joining SEPULTURA and the melodic instincts he developed during his run with the band.
Green said he's already in conversation with potential collaborators as he puts the project together, treating the search for the right musicians as the priority before locking down a band name or lineup. No further details on personnel have been announced.
Music isn't the only thing on Green's plate once SEPULTURA wraps its farewell tour on November 7 in São Paulo. He's also planning to pursue voiceover work for animation and commercials, and to keep developing plant-based lifestyle content, including possible new episodes of "Highway To Health," the travel and wellness series he created with bassist Tanya O'Callaghan.
Green fronted SEPULTURA for more than 25 years, taking over from Max Cavalera in 1997 and steering the band through a lineup era that, while divisive with some longtime fans, produced a substantial catalog in its own right. With that chapter now closing on his own terms, Green's next band gives him room to chase a sound he's apparently been holding back for a while.
