DREADNOUGHT have released "Colors Of Our Broken Hearts", the second single from "Wars Of Spirit // Wards Of Light", the Colorado band's new album — out September 11 via Vesperian, with pre-orders open now.
It follows "The Archive", which arrived with a video earlier in the campaign.
DREADNOUGHT have never been an easy band to file, and that has always been the point. Across their catalogue they have occupied the ground where progressive metal, folk and open atmosphere converge, resisting every label thrown at them. The new record does not abandon that so much as sharpen it: leaner in structure and more direct in execution, but no less vast in scope.
The album moves between stillness and upheaval, grief and transcendence, tracing an inner war that reads as cosmic and personal at once. It is built for deep listening — the kind of record that reveals itself slowly and rewards the patience it asks for.
The production team is worth noting. Julius Mauranen of ORANSSI PAZUZU handled the mix, with mastering by Jaakko Viitalähde of HAVUKRUUNU. The artwork comes from Eisner Award-winning artist Christian Ward, whose neon-soaked psychedelic futurism gives the album a visual language as singular as the music.
Vesperian — also home to WAYFARER and POLYMOON — are issuing it on CD and on vinyl, including a solar gold / cobalt blue split pressing with red splatter.
Six tracks. Still impossible to define, still impossible to ignore.
