ENTHEOS have released "Undone", the latest single from "Empty On The Inside", which arrives October 23 via Metal Blade Records. It is the centerpiece of the record, and the song where the band step somewhere they have not gone before.
Vocalist Chaney Crabb described it as a reckoning. "'Undone' is a dark, visceral song that's about the confrontation of the guilt that you've become the person you always feared you'd be," she said. "It's the grief of realizing that you cannot turn back time and change the things you've destroyed. Lyrically, it's incredibly raw and we feel that musically, it matches the lyrical content perfectly."
The music behind it marks a deliberate turn. "We've wanted to experiment with more of an industrial sound for a long time and writing this song came incredibly naturally to us," Crabb said. "Though it may be one that surprises people who listen to our band, it's one of the most 'true to ourselves' songs we've ever written. We can't wait to expand even more in this sonic territory."
That last line is the interesting part: a band known for technical density describing an industrial detour not as an experiment they tried once, but as a direction they intend to keep pushing.
"Empty On The Inside" is the most ambitious record of the band's career, and the most collaborative. Where earlier material leaned on the technical brilliance of Crabb and multi-instrumentalist Navene Koperweis, this time the full unit — with guitarists Scott Carstairs and Michael Stancel — wrote and recorded together. The result keeps the jaw-dropping musicianship and progressive intensity while pulling toward tighter songwriting, stronger hooks and a deeper melodic presence.
The band summarized the album's subject bluntly: "The album is about losing yourself in darkness, confronting that hopelessness and wondering if there's any way back to being the person you used to be."
It was produced by Mark Lewis (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, FALLUJAH, WHITECHAPEL) and mastered by Justin Sturtz at Sterling Sound, with artwork by Zac Shiffer (NINE INCH NAILS, BEHEMOTH, SOUNDGARDEN).
