Tobias Forge, the mastermind behind Swedish theatrical metal act GHOST, is making his directorial debut with a music video segment for "V/H/S/MIXTAPE," the ninth installment in Shudder's found-footage horror anthology franchise, the streaming service announced.
"V/H/S/MIXTAPE" rebuilds the series' signature format around a single unifying idea: the power of music, rhythm and sound to haunt, possess and destroy. The anthology blends cosmic horror, psychological suspense, outrageous splatter and practical effects into what Shudder is calling a "mixtape of nightmares."
Alongside Forge's segment, the film includes new contributions from filmmaker Ernest Dickerson, hip-hop artist RZA, director David Moreau and Renee Zhan, whose segment features original puppets built by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Musician and director Flying Lotus also directs original music video interludes that run through the anthology. Shock-rock veterans GWAR make a featured appearance as well, adding another heavy-music presence to the film's lineup alongside Forge and GHOST.
"V/H/S/MIXTAPE" is produced by Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber and Brad Miska, with Ben Ross and Rami Yassin serving as executive producers. The anthology begins streaming on Shudder on October 9, 2026.
The new installment follows "V/H/S/HALLOWEEN," which became the most-watched exclusive film premiere of 2025 for Shudder and AMC+ and drove the platform's biggest acquisition weekend of the year, according to the streamer.
The contribution is described by Shudder as Forge's directorial debut, marking his first credited filmmaking work. No further details have been released about what his "V/H/S/MIXTAPE" segment depicts or whether it draws on GHOST's music.
"V/H/S/MIXTAPE" is the latest expansion of the franchise's growing crossover with the metal and heavy-music world, joining GWAR's appearance in the same film as evidence that Shudder is leaning further into music-driven horror with this installment.
Shudder describes itself as a horror-focused streaming service available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, releasing roughly thirty original films a year alongside licensed titles and original series. The "V/H/S" franchise has become one of its flagship annual releases, with "V/H/S/MIXTAPE" positioned as this year's entry following "V/H/S/HALLOWEEN."
