GODSMACK headlined Poland's Pol'and'Rock Festival on July 30 in front of an estimated 700,000 people, and frontman Sully Erna says it may be the biggest crowd he's ever played to. "I've never seen anything like that in my life. Insanity," Erna said, describing an audience that stretched roughly 2.5 miles back from the stage. Pol'and'Rock, now in its 32nd year, began life as Woodstock Festival Poland after founder Jerzy Owsiak attended the original Woodstock '94 and returned home determined to build something similar. The festival has since grown into one of the largest free music gatherings in the world, held this year in Czaplinek with free admission and free camping across multiple stages spanning rock, punk, metal and folk. Any proceeds beyond operating costs go to children's hospitals across Poland.
Erna singled out that humanitarian framing as much as the crowd size when discussing the show, praising organizer Jurek Taborowski for building an event around community rather than profit — a structure Erna suggested is rare at festivals of this scale anywhere in the world.
GODSMACK's current touring lineup — Erna on vocals and guitar, bassist Robbie Merrill, guitarist Sam Koltun and drummer Mike Mangini, who joined from DREAM THEATER earlier this year — has been on the road heavily through 2026, with the band recently confirming an October U.S. run. The Pol'and'Rock set stands as the clearest evidence yet that the retooled lineup can hold a stage in front of a crowd of essentially any size.
