IGNEA have released "Darkness," the second advance single and music video from their upcoming album Monumental, due October 23 via Napalm Records.
The song sits with the strange comfort of memory even as it cracks apart — broken windows, fading concrete, futures that never arrived — framed as a journey beyond time and place that leaves behind a bittersweet question: what does it feel like to know you can never go back?
All four members of IGNEA are from Kyiv, and the band built "Darkness" as a nostalgic ode to their city, walking through its collective memory — the same modernist buildings that once promised a future, the subway stations, the streets that hold their childhoods, first kisses and people they've lost. "The war, in its turn, adds its own layer of darker nostalgia, watching those buildings burn in real time — and it heavily affected both days of filming," the band said.
IGNEA described shooting the video under harrowing conditions. "On the first day, one of the worst [russian] missile attacks on Kyiv hit the night before — we hadn't slept at all, running on nothing but adrenaline, and the city was still on fire as we drove to the location. On the second, we filmed through the city with sirens and drones overhead," the band said. "Considering this, we're living in literal darkness, longing for the peaceful, trouble-free days... Can we ever get back?"
"Darkness" follows lead single "Dreams Of Lands Unseen" and opens the tracklist of Monumental, IGNEA's nine-track concept album exploring nostalgia through Cold War-era and modernist imagery, recorded during the winter of 2025-2026 amid freezing temperatures and power outages in Kyiv.
