NO GRAVE have released a cover of SEPULTURA's "Slave New World", out now through Heroes & Martyrs. The midwest hardcore band push the aggression of the 1993 original harder still while leaving its shattering riffs where they are.
Guitarist Rich Thurston was direct about the choice of song. "SEPULTURA has been one of our favorite metal/crossover bands for as long as we can remember," he said. "Chaos AD pushed them into another realm and we wanted to make sure we picked a song that encompasses that. 'Slave New World' is a perfect representation of what we love about SEPULTURA."
The timing is better than accidental. "Chaos A.D." has been approached from several directions this year — Max Cavalera has been performing the album in full, and SEPULTURA themselves are working through a farewell tour that Derrick Green has said was Andreas Kisser's idea in the first place. A hardcore band reaching for "Slave New World" right now reads less as novelty than as a reminder of where that record's audience has always lived: the crossover point at which hardcore and metal stopped being usefully separable.
NO GRAVE are anchored by Thurston, a veteran of the '90s hardcore scene whose history runs through CULTURE, TERROR and BLOOD HAS BEEN SHED — the last of those a band whose ranks included Howard Jones and Justin Foley before both went on to KILLSWITCH ENGAGE.
The cover follows "Suffer Together", NO GRAVE's second album, released in May through Heroes & Martyrs. Built on defiance, it channels the weight of hardcore tradition into something sharper and more immediate: blunt-force riffs, coiled rhythms and cutting melody across a record rooted in loss, betrayal and survival that refuses to look back.
