Australian metalcore band NORTHLANE will release their seventh studio album, Anemoia, on October 30 as an independent release, the band announced alongside the arrival of a new single, "CUT_it."
"CUT_it," the album's second track, deals with burnout — vocalist Marcus Bridge said the song was built to capture "the feeling of grinding through things when you're completely spent, mentally and physically," adding that its imagery is "deliberately visceral, painting a picture of that exhaustion rather than analysing it." Musically, the track rides a low, bending groove before opening into one of the record's heaviest passages, with Bridge stretching into new, more menacing vocal territory.
Anemoia was executive produced by Jordan Fish and grew out of guitarist Jon Deiley's fascination with a set by U.K. producer Evian Christ, which led him to explore how trance music's emotional scale could merge with heavy guitars. The result runs through euphoric trance, seismic breakdowns, drum-and-bass and jungle textures alongside NORTHLANE's established electronic-metalcore core.
The album's title refers to a feeling of nostalgia for a time or place one has never actually experienced, a concept the band uses to balance darkness and hope across the tracklist. "There's darkness here, but it's not nihilism — and there's hope, but it's not naivety," Bridge said.
Anemoia follows 2022's Obsidian, which topped the charts. Lead single "Evian" arrived earlier as the record's more hopeful counterpart to "CUT_it."

More than 15 years into their career, NORTHLANE have racked up multiple chart-topping releases, industry awards and over 500 million streams. The band is currently touring Europe's festival circuit after wrapping a North American run supporting DAYSEEKER, and will follow the summer dates with the Hellbound cruise and a fall European tour, again alongside DAYSEEKER.
