SLIPKNOT have officially ended their association with Sid Wilson, closing a chapter that has been half-open in public since the end of July.
On Friday, August 14 — exactly two weeks after TMZ first reported that the 49-year-old DJ and keyboardist had been permanently removed from the band — SLIPKNOT posted a statement to social media that ran two sentences: "Effective immediately, SLIPKNOT will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best in his future endeavors."
The post was subsequently deleted, which is entirely in keeping with how the whole affair has been handled. According to TMZ's August 3 follow-up, Wilson's exit was "a long time coming" and the decision "came after the group finally had enough of Sid's behavior … namely, the way he treated his bandmates." The same report claimed SLIPKNOT had intended to announce the departure themselves during the first week of August, but "lost control of the rollout" once TMZ broke the story on July 31.
The band's own members said almost nothing at the time. Guitarist Jim Root posted a cryptic Instagram Stories message soundtracked by SLIPKNOT's 2008 song "'Til We Die": "Don't believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there's more information."
Nearly three decades of information have now closed with a paragraph. Wilson joined SLIPKNOT in 1998, shortly before the release of the self-titled debut, and spent 28 years as #0 in a lineup that numbers its members from 0 to 8, feeding turntable scratches, sound effects and background texture into a band that could easily have been unlistenable without them. He also toured intermittently as DJ Starscream, a name lifted from "Transformers".
His personal life ran through metal's biggest story of the last two years. In 2022 Wilson and Kelly Osbourne — daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne — announced they were expecting a child; their son Sidney was born that November. The couple became engaged at BLACK SABBATH's farewell show in July 2025, weeks before Ozzy's death, and were reported to have quietly split this past March.
SLIPKNOT's most recent live performance was at the Inkcarceration festival in Ohio in July 2025. There has been no word on whether the DJ position will be filled.
