ANGRA have released a live video for "Lisbon", one of the most loved songs in the Brazilian band's catalogue — and one written by a man who has been gone for seven years.
The audio is a live recording captured at Porão Do Rock in Brasília. The picture around it is assembled from four separate nights: Porão Do Rock itself, Bangers Open Air, Espaço Unimed in São Paulo and Santa Bárbara Rock Fest. Maycon Avelino directed and produced it, and rather than documenting one concert he has cut the four together into a single stretch of road, where each scene carries a different city and a different audience and they all land on the same feeling.
"Lisbon" was written by André Matos, ANGRA's founding singer, who died in 2019. It sits third on 1998's "Fireworks" — not on "Holy Land", the record the band are currently touring — and it has survived every phase of ANGRA's history since. Using the Porão Do Rock audio instead of a studio take is the point of the whole exercise: the melodic weight is intact, but the crowd is in the mix, and the version you hear is the one that exists only in a room.
The current lineup is Alírio Netto on vocals, Rafael Bittencourt and Marcelo Barbosa on guitars, Felipe Andreoli on bass and Bruno Valverde on drums. Netto, previously of SHAMAN, formally replaced Fabio Lione last November after Lione's thirteen years at the front.
"I'm very happy with the warm reception our new vocalist, Alírio Netto, has received from the audience," Bittencourt said, "and our new live video for 'Lisbon' shows exactly that."
The release lands mid-tour. ANGRA are on the road for the thirtieth anniversary of "Holy Land", the 1996 album that carried their name out of Brazil, and the run is stacked with guests from their own past. On September 12 they headline Rock Hard Festival Greece at Technopolis in Athens with Kiko Loureiro as special guest. Loureiro rejoins them again at L'Olympia in Paris on September 23. Two nights at Tokio Marine Hall in São Paulo bring back Luis Mariutti on October 2 and Edu Falaschi on October 3, and the announced schedule closes at Full Metal Japan in Yokohama on October 25 with both Loureiro and Falaschi on stage.
