DREAM UNENDING will release their third album, Certain Uncertainties, on October 30 through 20 Buck Spin. The duo of guitarist and bassist Derrick Vella (TOMB MOLD) and drummer and vocalist Justin DeTore (INNUMERABLE FORMS, SUMERLANDS, MAGIC CIRCLE) have shared the first single, "Strained Sincerity".
On their first two albums DREAM UNENDING stretched death-doom into something that could hold progressive rock, ambient passages and jazz-leaning improvisation. This time, the band says, the gaze has come back down to earth. Certain Uncertainties was recorded with fewer layers and a more immediate approach, with DeTore's drums present throughout and Vella's guitar wandering into blues, jazz and American roots phrasing. The label describes the six songs as vignettes, part desert reverie and part after-hours noir. The band's own tongue-in-cheek tag for it is "adult contemporary doom".
The record was written while Vella was rebuilding his confidence in taking risks, and that doubt runs through it: the bruised balladry of "I Carry Your Burden", the improvised openness of the title track and the album's uglier death-doom eruptions sit side by side.
Several guests appear: trumpet from Leila Abdul-Rauf (VASTUM) on the title track, keys from Dave Vella on "Rubato", and vocals from Brendan Radigan (MAGIC CIRCLE, PAGAN ALTAR) on "I Carry Your Burden". The cover is by Benjamin Vierling, who painted the band's previous artwork.
