Alte Seelen has set October 2 as the international release date for The Trials of Existence, the third album from Pennsylvania black metal trio DUMAL, on CD format.
Active in the USBM scene since 2013 — the name comes from Baudelaire's Les Fleurs du Mal, "du mal" meaning "of evil" — DUMAL built their catalog through a run of EPs, splits and two full-lengths, working '90s Scandinavian ferocity, Eastern European melody and the brute strength of American black metal into a sound both elegant and oppressive.
The Trials of Existence moves forward from the underground success of 2020's The Confessor, and this time the band have doubled down: keyboards are stripped away entirely in favor of raw guitar arrangements, weaving a soundscape the label calls as caustic as it is soaring — catchy, but fiercely loyal to its underground black metal roots.
The first two tracks, "Ivyland" and "Rendered Impotent by Glass", are streaming now at the label's Bandcamp, where the album can be preordered alongside the label's webshop.
