FERVENCE have shared "Ascension," the newest single from "Constructs," the progressive metalcore band's Metal Blade Records debut, due October 16. An official video accompanies it.
The song exists because the album needed a rupture. "'Ascension' came about because I felt like the album really needed chaos — short, fast, and seemingly out of left field," explains founding guitarist Trent Odneal. "Kind of like a fever-dream with a fleeting moment of reflection before it slips away, only to be pulled back into the chaos."
That instinct for disruption sits inside a record otherwise built on patience. Across eleven tracks, "Constructs" works through life, death, emotion and relationships, and Odneal frames the album as the sound of a band whose thinking has moved on. "As we have grown together and individually so have our views on existence and the concepts discussed," he says. "'Constructs' is a refinement of our ability to convey some of these thoughts in a more generally relatable way, while also adding a bit more insight on other tangential topics."
The closing title track carries the heaviest of those thoughts. Guitarist Austin Bentley describes it as a "concluding thought to a note that I wrote to myself that began when we did the 'Ghost' LP." He continues: "We all take different paths that shape who we are and who we eventually become. But those paths are just constructs of thought stored in memory. Some good, some terrible, but all of them contribute to the people we are now. Though these things can feel monumental or cosmically important while we're living through them, they always collapse in the end. We still die. We still disappear. We live, we learn, we die."
"Constructs" was produced by Odneal and Bentley and mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren. It arrives on CD and digital alongside vinyl in two variants — Pearl Bone Marble and Shimmer Gold + Black Marble, both US editions — with pre-orders live at metalblade.com/fervence.
The quintet — Stevie B. on vocals, Odneal and Bentley on guitars and programming, Jon Daniels on bass and Chris Tufino on drums — are on the road as the record closes in. Three dates with BEAUTY IS BETRAYAL remain this week, and a second leg with ENTHRONEMENT opens in Dallas on October 16, release day itself, running through to Tyler, Texas on November 1.
