FIT FOR A KING have started work on the follow-up to "Lonely God", and by vocalist Ryan Kirby's account they are further into it than they have ever been at this stage.
Speaking to Rock Sound, Kirby confirmed the Texas metalcore band have been writing, and that roughly twenty demos already exist — the largest volume of material they have assembled for any record. He credited the band's recent tour with MOTIONLESS IN WHITE as the thing that set it off. The studio, however, is not booked until 2027.
That gap between writing and recording is the interesting part. Twenty demos is not a record's worth of songs; it is a surplus, the kind of pile that exists specifically so that most of it can be thrown away. Bands who go into a studio with eleven songs and eleven slots tend to make the album they planned. Bands who go in with twenty are making a different bet.
"Lonely God" arrived on August 1, 2025 through Solid State Records — album eight, and the latest step in a run that started with "Descendants" in 2011 and hardened through "Deathgrip", "Dark Skies", "The Path" and "The Hell We Create". Fourteen years in, FIT FOR A KING are one of the few bands of their generation to have kept the same essential identity without stalling: still metalcore, still on Solid State, still recognisably themselves across eight records.
The current lineup is Kirby on vocals, Bobby Lynge and Daniel Gailey on guitars, Ryan "Tuck" O'Leary on bass and Trey Celaya on drums.
A 2027 studio date means the ninth album is unlikely to surface before late 2027 at the earliest, which leaves a long runway — and, on the evidence of twenty demos, no shortage of material to spend it on.
