FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH have released the official music video for "Legacy," the title track of their tenth studio album, timed to the arrival of the record's physical editions. "Legacy" came out digitally on July 31 via Better Noise Music; limited-edition vinyl, CD and cassette variants with exclusive artwork are available now through the band's store, with the European vinyl pressing following on October 9.
The band played the title track live for the first time on July 20 at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey, opening their summer North American run, alongside earlier singles "Eye Of The Storm" and "De Oppresso Liber." Revolver called "Eye Of The Storm" "huge," praising how "it mixes a flurry of battering metal chugs with a sense of melody, plus Ivan Moody's pensive-but-barked lyrics hinting at fears, regrets, burdens, blame, and the search for some kind of inner peace."
Guitarist Zoltan Bathory has had to spend some time explaining that the album title is not an exit announcement. "Basically, the title is 'Legacy' because it's kind of a milestone, but it's a big one. Tenth album, which not many bands get that far, that they get to make ten albums and successfully. Ten album, twenty years, it just happens so that all these numbers coincided," he told Alena Hamberger of Germany's Rock Antenne.
"People told me before, like, ''Legacy', it sounds like you guys are retiring.' I go, 'No, not even close,'" he continued. "But it's more like a marker, like, 'Wow, we got this far.' And it was us kind of talking about how when you were a kid, did you think, growing up, you're gonna be a musician — because we all want it to be, obviously. But when you were dreaming of the band in the future you're gonna be, did you dream of that, that you're gonna create a band that will actually have a legacy?"
The numbers do line up. The band formed in 2005 and released debut album "The Way Of The Fist" in 2007, and the current run is billed as a 20th-anniversary world tour. The 48-city North American leg, produced by Live Nation, began in Camden and wraps October 23 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, with Cody Jinks and EVA UNDER FIRE in support.
Europe follows in the new year, and the bill gets heavier: LAMB OF GOD and BLEED FROM WITHIN join for 21 cities, opening in Manchester on January 16 and closing in Helsinki on February 22.
A portion of ticket sales from the North American run goes to high-performance programmes for U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes ahead of the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, continuing a charitable streak the band have maintained for most of their career.
