ICE NINE KILLS have found a use for the horror obsession that built their career: programming a cinema series. The band have teamed with AMC Theatres for "Welcome To Horrorwood," a month-long "AMC Thrills & Chills" run at roughly 300 locations across the United States throughout October.
Named after and inspired by "The Silver Scream" and "The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood," and put together in partnership with horror brand Bloody Disgusting, the series pairs the band with five films that helped define the genre: "Hostel," "Friday The 13th," "American Psycho," "Pet Sematary" and "The Crow." Each screening opens with a custom introduction from frontman Spencer Charnas and is paired with the ICE NINE KILLS music video inspired by that film — a neat closing of the loop, given that the band wrote songs about these movies in the first place.
"It's a bloody honor to present this selection of modern horror classics with the mighty AMC Theatres and our friends at Bloody Disgusting," said Charnas. "Metal music and marquee movie mayhem. What more could we ask for this October?"
The series takes over Friday and Tuesday nights, with every screening starting at 8 p.m. local time. For Halloween weekend, "The Crow" runs as the Friday night title on October 30 and returns for a special Halloween night screening on October 31. All tickets are priced at AMC's discounted Fan Faves rate and are on sale now at AMCTheatres.com and through the AMC app.
"Horror has long been a favorite among moviegoers, especially during the Halloween season, and we're always looking for new ways to give fans more opportunities to enjoy these films on the big screen at AMC," said Ryan Wood, AMC's senior vice president and head film buyer. "These are movies people know and love, and it's exciting to bring them back to theatres in a unique way."
The tie-up is a reasonable measure of how far ICE NINE KILLS have come. "The Silver Scream" produced the RIAA gold single "A Grave Mistake"; the band have toured with SLIPKNOT and were handpicked by METALLICA for the "M72" world tour; and the wider "INKverse" now stretches to cinematic music videos, mock true-crime books, graphic novels, merch drops and the annual Silver Scream convention in Worcester, Massachusetts. Last year closed with a headline show at OVO Arena Wembley and the first Silver Scream Con in London. This year marks twenty years since their debut album.
