MOTHER OF GRAVES have released "The Silent Weight Of The Stars", the second single from their third album The Light That Keeps Us, due October 16 via Profound Lore Records on CD, LP and digital. The accompanying video takes the Indianapolis death/doom quintet in a decidedly cinematic, narrative direction.

We covered the album announcement in August alongside lead single "Through The Pale Shade"; the record follows The Periapt Of Absence, which landed at No. 11 on Decibel Magazine's albums of 2024.

"'The Silent Weight Of The Stars' is based around a languishing pursuit of meaning and respite in the arms of an estranged yet timeless love; seeking salvation from sorrow and encountering ghost-like and elusive moments of memory," vocalist and keyboardist Brandon Howe says of the lyrics. "It is a story of hope and yearning even under skies of one's own defeat."

Guitarist Chris Morrison traces the song back to a single idea: "It all started with the main riff I couldn't get out of my head, and we built 'The Silent Weight Of The Stars' around that with the intention of balancing immediate hooks with an emotional weight. Between the guitar harmonies, some great playing from our rhythm section, and that intense section toward the end, the song builds a dynamic that we matched visually in the video. We moved into a more cinematic, narrative direction that allowed us to capture a bleak, dark, mysterious tone while keeping an underlying pulse of hope."
