REPENTANCE have released "Fade Into Silence", a single and video dedicated to the Chicago band's founding member Shaun Glass, who died unexpectedly on July 1, 2026. The song is his — he wrote it — and that is precisely why it was chosen.
"We decided that 'Fade Into Silence' would be the next single from the record because we wanted to dedicate this release to Shaun Glass," says vocalist Adam Gilley. "Of all the songs on the record, 'Fade Into Silence' just felt like the perfect song to honor him — especially because it was a song that Shaun himself wrote. His unexpected passing has left a major hole in our hearts and in this band.
"Shaun wasn't just a bandmate or a friend; he was our brother. He was the one who created this band and helped give it its identity, and he was deeply loved by every one of us. It's difficult to put into words what his loss means to us, and things will never quite be the same without him.
"This song now carries a meaning we never expected it to have. Every note is a reminder of Shaun, his creativity, his passion, and everything he gave to this band. We're proud to dedicate 'Fade Into Silence' to our brother and friend, Shaun Glass. His music, his influence, and his memory will always be a part of us. Rest easy, Shaun. This one is for you."
"Fade Into Silence" belongs to "Retaliate", REPENTANCE's third album, which was supposed to arrive this summer. After Glass's death the band moved it to November 27 out of respect for him. It will be released through Noble Demon, produced by Alex Lackner at Accelerated Sound and mixed by Ari Mihalopoulos at Inner Light Studio.
Glass spent more than four decades inside the Chicago metal scene, and the list of bands he drove reads like a map of it: TERMINAL DEATH, SINDROME, BROKEN HOPE, SOIL, DIRGE WITHIN, THE BLOODLINE and, last, REPENTANCE, which he formed in 2018. He shared stages with most of the genre's larger names along the way.
REPENTANCE built their sound on groove metal — blunt, technically precise, with no interest in softening anything. "God For A Day" arrived in 2020, the EP "Volume I – Reborn" in 2021 introduced Gilley, and 2023's "The Process Of Human Demise" pushed the thrash element further forward. The band is Gilley, Glass and Eric Burns on guitars, Eric Karol on bass and Brandon White on drums.
A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to help Glass's family cover hospital bills from his final weeks on life support and to provide some stability for his son, Maddux.
