Shudder has released the trailer for "V/H/S/MIXTAPE", the ninth instalment of the found-footage franchise, and this one is built for metal fans specifically: the organising principle is music, rhythm and audio as the source of terror.
The anthology streams October 9, 2026. Its segments come from Ernest Dickerson, hip-hop figure RZA, David Moreau and Renee Zhan — the last of those using original puppets built by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, which is either delightful or alarming depending on the segment. The stated range runs from cosmic horror through psychological suspense to outright splatter, with heavy use of practical effects.
The part that concerns us: between segments, the film runs original music video interludes directed by Flying Lotus, and a brand-new music video from a debut filmmaker named Tobias Forge. GHOST's frontman has been publicly working toward exactly this for a while — he announced the project in August, shortly after explaining that the band's hiatus exists because he needs to actually want to make a record before making one. Directing horror shorts is a reasonable way to spend that interval.
He is not the only heavy music presence in it. GWAR make a featured appearance, which for a franchise about videotapes recording things they should not is close to perfect casting. Thirty-five years of stage blood and latex, finally in a medium designed for it.
Producers on the film are Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber and Brad Miska, with Ben Ross and Rami Yassin as executive producers.
The franchise is arriving on this one with momentum. The previous instalment, "V/H/S/HALLOWEEN", had a record-breaking opening weekend, became the most-watched exclusive film premiere of 2025 for Shudder and AMC+, and drove the service's biggest acquisition weekend of the year. Shudder puts out roughly thirty original films annually and has been responsible for "Skinamarink", "Late Night With The Devil", "When Evil Lurks", "In A Violent Nature" and Phil Tippett's "Mad God", among others.
