Italian death doom band ASSUMPTION will release their third full-length, Paradox Of The Arrow, on November 13 through 20 Buck Spin on LP, CD and digital. The first preview, "Tombs Upon The Sun", is out now, and preorders are open via the label's webshop and Bandcamp.
The album takes its title from Zeno's ancient paradox: an arrow in flight, frozen at any single instant, is not moving at all. ASSUMPTION use the idea as a frame for six long pieces that swing between glacial, low-tuned crawl and sudden bursts of violent death metal, with dissonant guitar resonance, ambient stretches and psychedelic detail filling the gaps between.
According to the band, "Tombs Upon The Sun" was originally meant to be the album title before they settled on the Zeno concept. They call it one of the more "accessible" songs on what they describe as their most varied record yet, with lyrics that imagine an inverted, oceanic world to which the spirit is destined to return.
Guitars and bass were tracked by the band in Italy and Slovenia, then reamped alongside the drum, vocal and synth sessions. Claudio Mulas engineered, mixed and mastered the record. The cover painting is by Mariya Popyk (LUGUBRIOUS GARMENT, TOMARUM), photographed by Marco Zanin, with design and layout by Claudio Collina. The label promises more previews before release day.
