COAL CHAMBER Drummer Mikey Cox Out of Upcoming Shows After Breaking His Femur

COAL CHAMBER drummer Mikey "Bug" Cox will miss the band's next two shows after breaking his femur in a fall. DEVILDRIVER drummer Davier Pérez Ortega will take his place at Sick New World Texas in Fort Worth on October 24 and at the band's Halloween show at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, California on October 31, where COAL CHAMBER share the bill with P.O.D., CRADLE OF FILTH and BLACK SATELLITE.

Cox explained on social media on October 23 that he went down hard on concrete during a pickup basketball game with his son — after making the game-winning shot, he noted — and shattered the bone. He needed surgery and three pins and won't be walking for at least six weeks. He wrote that after the treatment he has been through over the past two years his bones are fragile, and that while he has played through broken fingers and dislocated shoulders before, this time he simply can't recover in time.

He called Pérez, who has worked alongside him for years, "basically the 5th member of COAL CHAMBER" and said he hopes to be well enough to watch the Anaheim show from the crowd. He signed off promising that next year "is going to be HUGE" for the band.

It's another setback in a hard year for the drummer. Cox went public in April with his cancer battle, and COAL CHAMBER later pulled out of Louder Than Life so he could undergo his final related surgery. We covered that update at the time.
