Connecticut metalcore band CURRENTS have signed with Rise Records and will release their fourth full-length album, Our Fates Lie in Tandem, on February 12. The announcement comes with the first single, "Retributioner", out today.
The 11-track record is the band's first album in nearly four years, following 2023's The Death We Seek, and their debut for Rise. Vocalist Brian Wille calls it their most personal work so far, with "some social commentary and a little bit of heartbreak too". He says the band deliberately stepped away from heaviness for its own sake: a song, they agreed, doesn't have to be "a walking breakdown" to hit hard.
"Retributioner" sets the tone. According to the band, the song is about "how our world smothers the righteous" — a pushback against the idea that getting ahead means dropping your principles and cutting through everyone in your way. The accompanying video was directed by Chris Klumpp and Errick Easterday.
Guitarist Chris Wiseman, who steered the production of the band's earlier albums, produced Our Fates Lie in Tandem himself, with additional production by Ricky Armellino and mixing by Jon Dolese (CHELSEA GRIN, CANE HILL). The band describes the making of the record as an intense, multi-year process that challenged how they write songs. The cover art is by Adam Burke.
CURRENTS are Brian Wille (vocals), Chris Wiseman (guitar), Ryan Castaldi (guitar), Matt Young (drums) and Christian Pulgarin (bass). Formed in 2011, they have released five EPs and three albums to date.
