Amor Fati Productions will release Descend, the debut album from Belgian black metal act DÄAHL, on November 24 on CD and vinyl LP. The first track to surface, "Descend II", is out now on the label's YouTube channel.
DÄAHL is not a new name so much as a new form. It picks up where LHAÄD left off: that project put out three albums through Amor Fati, an underwater trilogy of torrential, all-consuming black metal that closed with Beyond. The label frames the change as "water becomes fire". Black metal stays at the core, but the violence now burns both inward and outward.
The two names are anagrams of the same word, hadal, the term for the deepest zone of the ocean, the lightless trenches where the pressure is crushing and nothing moves. The word itself traces back to Hades, the Greek god of the underworld, and that is where Descend is pointed: past the drowning depths of the LHAÄD records and into a realm measured in flame rather than water.
The album runs four long tracks, each between roughly eight and eleven minutes, for a total of about 38 minutes.
