DET EVIGA LEENDET Share 'Avail' From Debemur Morti Debut 'Vehemence'

Swedish black metal collective DET EVIGA LEENDET has shared "Avail", the first and only single from its third album, Vehemence. The record comes out on November 13 via Debemur Morti Productions, the band's first release for the French label.

The band formed in Uppsala in 2015 and took its name from Pär Lagerkvist's 1920 novel Det eviga leendet ("The Eternal Smile"), in which the dead pass eternity in darkness by talking to one another. Its debut, Lenience, came out in 2018 on Fallen Empire Records, followed by Reverence in 2022 via Mystískaos, with Amor Fati Productions handling both in Europe. Jacob Buczarski of MARE COGNITUM and ACATHEXIS has been the band's vocalist since the first album, and painter Johan G. Winther has created the artwork for every record.

Like its predecessors, Vehemence was recorded in Uppsala by Kristofer Jönson (BARRENS, JENIFEREVER). Magnus Lindberg of CULT OF LUNA, known for his work with ULCERATE, mixed and mastered it. The label describes a broader sound than before, with churning post-metal guitars, bright leads and hypnotic rhythms under Buczarski's roars, and a record that feels both vast and claustrophobic.

The lyrics return to the band's central theme: collapse as the only constant, where perception hardens into conviction and conviction into detachment. The band itself sums the album up as "an indignant psychosis – the scrawling of divine madness twisted by irreverence, a fevered cacophony of inverted glossolalia".

Debemur Morti will host a Bandcamp listening party for the full album on Thursday, November 5, at 7 PM CET.

Vehemence track listing:

  1. Glean
  2. Stray
  3. Deliverance
  4. Avail
  5. Relent
  6. Virtue
