Gdańsk-based death/thrash outfit DIETH has parted ways with former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, the band announced on October 6. Ellefson's place is taken by Swedish death metal veteran Tobias Cristiansson, whose résumé includes GRAVE, NECROPHOBIC and DISMEMBER. No reason was given for Ellefson's exit.
The lineup shake-up comes with a new label home: DIETH has signed with Fireflash Records, which will handle the band's second studio album.
The new lineup
- Guilherme Miranda — guitars, vocals
- Hubert Więcek — guitars
- Tobias Cristiansson — bass
- Michał Łysejko — drums
Frontman Guilherme Miranda says Fireflash felt like the right fit because the label shares the band's ambitions for where DIETH can go next. Welcoming Cristiansson, he calls the bassist a longtime friend whose track record "speaks for itself" and who "fits perfectly with what we're building."
First taste of album number two
The new era kicks off on October 16 with "Pound Of Flesh", a single and music video leading into the follow-up record. Miranda doesn't mince words about it: he wanted the track to be brutal, and says that's exactly what it turned out to be. A title and release date for the album have not been announced yet.
Background
DIETH formed in 2022 around Miranda, Łysejko and Ellefson, and released its debut album, To Hell And Back, through Napalm Records in 2023. Since then the band has played festivals across Europe and toured with TESTAMENT, SEPULTURA, METAL ALLEGIANCE and KK'S PRIEST.
