Italian dark power metal band DRACONICON have released "We Are Tyrants" today (October 30), the first single from their third studio album, Empire, which is due in early 2027. The track is out on all major digital platforms and arrives with an official music video.
It's the first new music since the band unveiled their reshaped five-piece lineup and announced Empire at the start of October. "We Are Tyrants" keeps the cinematic, violin-laced darkness DRACONICON built on Dark Side Of Magic (2021) and Pestilence (2023), but goes for a more direct, anthemic punch. Lyrically, the song deals with power, domination and the bottomless appetite of those who rule from above.
Frontman Grym Hünter says the band picked it as the opener for a reason: it is direct and powerful, and shows part of the attitude they wanted to bring to Empire. After everything that happened behind the scenes over the past few years, he adds, finally sharing new music makes this release especially important to them — "and this is only the beginning."
The video was directed by Valeria Cascenco, who also handled post-production; Alessandro Mammola mixed and mastered the track. More music and details on Empire, including an exact release date, will follow over the coming months.
DRACONICON are:
- Grym Hünter — lead vocals, rhythm guitar
- Alex Moth — lead guitar
- Simon Borgen — violin, backing vocals
- Dave Tomadini — drums
- Philip Skrim — bass, backing vocals
