Italian death metal newcomers EYES OF AGONY will release their debut album, When They Return, on November 20 via Awakening Records on CD. The first track to surface is "Resuscitation Failed", now streaming on the label's YouTube channel.
The project is the brainchild of guitarist Danny Cinicolo, who founded the old-school Italian death metal acts EXCIDIUM and MALEFICARUM, with roots going back to the '80s and '90s. Cinicolo had been writing material for years and posting some of it on his YouTube channel, Danny Cynic, which has around 20,000 subscribers. The response convinced him to build a full album, and he brought in his old MALEFICARUM bandmate, vocalist Andrea Zanetti, whose résumé also covers ICONOCLAST, SCHIZO, SINOATH and MONUMENTUM (he sang on the classic In Absentia Christi).
The lineup is filled out by drummer Davide Billia (BEHEADED, HOUR OF PENANCE, ANTROPOFAGUS, PUTRIDITY, SEPTYCAL GORGE), who tracked his parts at his own MK2 Recording Studios, guitarist Massimo Boffa (MIND CONTROL, HALLEY) and bassist Fabrizio "Jesus" Biondi, formerly of MECHANICAL GOD CREATION.
When They Return runs nine tracks across 36 minutes and, according to the label, aims squarely at old-school death metal in the vein of INCANTATION, NILE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, AT THE GATES and DEATH. Even though the members recorded remotely, the label stresses that the record sounds like five musicians playing as one unit. Luca Nicolucci handled the mix and master at Comet Broadcasting Studio, and the cover art is by Julian Mortuus.
