German extreme metallers FIRTAN have released a video for "Shadows of a Dawn Unborn", the fourth track revealed from their fifth album Helios. The record arrives tomorrow, October 2, via AOP Records, and the new clip features Christian Höll of VINSTA, who plays soprano saxophone on the album.
"Shadows of a Dawn Unborn" is the penultimate track on Helios, sitting just before the closing BATHORY cover, "Man of Iron". It follows the videos for "Ascension", "The Hierophant Way" (with James Dorton of NE OBLIVISCARIS) and "Kalika's Tongue", which we covered last month.
Named after the sun, Helios frames the road to enlightenment as conquest rather than escape: becoming the clearest, strongest version of yourself in a world built for distraction and decay. The music mirrors that idea, welding the atmospheric ferocity of black metal to the weight of death metal. Violin, acoustic and electric, runs through the songs in melancholic and experimental lines, pulling against the band's intricate riffing, while acoustic instruments, ritual chants and analogue synths add further layers.
FIRTAN have spent more than a decade on the German extreme metal scene and will present the new material live on their Helios tour this autumn.
