INFECTIOUS GROOVES, the funk-metal outfit founded by METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES frontman Mike Muir, will mark 35 years of their debut album with a special concert on November 28 at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles. The band will play The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move... It's The Infectious Grooves from start to finish.
The band announced the show on social media on Tuesday, October 20. Tickets go on sale this Friday, October 23, at 7:00 AM Pacific.
The lineup
Trujillo and Muir will be joined by:
- Dean Pleasants (guitar), Muir's longtime partner in SUICIDAL TENDENCIES;
- Dave Kushner (guitar), formerly of VELVET REVOLVER;
- Brooks Wackerman (drums), known for his work with AVENGED SEVENFOLD.
Beyond the full album, the band promises "some other high octane jams" and "a surprise or two" on the night.
Back to the Fonda
The date is a return trip of sorts. SUICIDAL TENDENCIES played the same venue on October 1 to help open the celebrations for The Fonda Theatre's 100th anniversary, and Muir's announcement framed the INFECTIOUS GROOVES show as another anniversary party in the same room.
How it started
INFECTIOUS GROOVES took shape soon after Trujillo joined SUICIDAL TENDENCIES in 1989. He and Muir wanted songs built around the bass, while leaving the other players plenty of room to move. The result was the 1991 debut, a hybrid of thrash, punk and slap-heavy funk that became a cult record of the early-'90s crossover scene.
Muir has long described the mix as less odd than it looks on paper. He has said that the SEX PISTOLS and PARLIAMENT were his two favorite bands growing up, and that he heard more in common between them than their genre labels suggest — adding that there is something beautiful about breaking rules that never should have existed.
