KING 810 have released "I Know You Heard Of Me", the opening track of their new album La Grande Mort Or Silence Of God, which arrives on November 27. The song comes with an official video.
Putting it first on the record was a deliberate choice. Over roughly four minutes the track drifts from something close to a sinister lullaby into a full, crashing finale, and it sets the mood for everything that follows. Frontman David Gunn describes it as "a transmission I got a long time ago — a channeling whose origin I can't even be sure of myself."
"This one's about the idea that we're not the first to notice something's off about reality," Gunn explains, "that people have been trying to warn each other for thousands of years, and getting burned for it. Figuratively and literally."
La Grande Mort Or Silence Of God is the Flint, Michigan band's fourth full-length of original material in eighteen months and a companion piece to 2016's La Petite Mort Or A Conversation With God, still their most acclaimed and most streamed record. When we covered the announcement in August, "Love Kills" was the first taste; the band has since also put out a video for "Hungry Gods".
Gunn spells out the link between the two records: "Ten years ago, we explored 'the little death' — a phrase the French use to describe orgasm — in a sexually charged body of work. This year, we experience the silence of God. The little death was only a rehearsal for the big death."
The album was again recorded with longtime collaborator Josh Schroeder (LORNA SHORE, FROZEN SOUL, VARIALS). The lineup is David Gunn (vocals, guitar, keys), Eugene Gill (bass), John Paul Vega (drums) and Bryce Ballinger (guitar).
