LUGUBRIOUS GARMENT, the new death metal project from Italian multi-instrumentalist Gabriele Gramaglia (COSMIC PUTREFACTION, VERTEBRA ATLANTIS), has put its debut album In The Wide Vale Of Uncreated Night up to stream in full ahead of its release on 20 Buck Spin this Friday, October 16.
Gramaglia, who is based in Milan, started LUGUBRIOUS GARMENT as an outlet for a rawer, more instinctive kind of death metal than his other bands play. The project made its first statement with Demo MMXXV last year, and the album takes that impulse much further. Gramaglia's knack for layered, many-sided songwriting is still there, but here it is aimed at chaos: abrasive guitars grind through knotty rhythms, tortured vocals howl from the middle of the noise, and shrieking leads slice across the songs. Tempos lurch from pounding mid-pace to sudden bursts of speed, and flashes of classic heavy and speed metal break through before the maelstrom pulls them back under.
Gramaglia wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered the album himself at Crepuscular Sound Studio between fall 2025 and spring 2026. He plays guitars, bass and synths, sings, and handles sound design. Claudio Invidia plays drums on every track, and Yr-nhhngr adds extra vocals throughout. Giorgio Trombino (ASSUMPTION) plays a solo in the closing section of "Transient Wounds, Spiritual Wilt," the single we covered in September, and Andrea Morgan adds violin and viola to "…And Therein Plant Unto Their Souls Asunder" and "Eternal Scars And Imperative Backfires." Mariya Popyk (ASSUMPTION, TOMARUM) painted the cover.
Early reactions have been strong. Decibel calls the record "instrumentally relentless, bursting with creativity, totally unhinged," and Deaf Sparrow gave it 5/5. The label recommends it to fans of COSMIC PUTREFACTION, DEFACEMENT, BLACK CURSE, ABSU and ASCENDED DEAD.
In The Wide Vale Of Uncreated Night comes out on LP, CD and digital.
