Chilean progressive death-doom band MAR DE GRISES have re-signed with Season of Mist. The French label, which put out their last album, Streams Inwards, in 2010, will release the band's long-awaited fourth full-length next year, ending more than 15 years without a new record.
The band have shared a short teaser of new music, titled "The Source of Will":
Formed in Santiago in 2000, MAR DE GRISES draw their cinematic, melodic take on death-doom from Chile's landscape, from the Andes and the Pacific coast to the Atacama Desert and the cold of Cape Horn. After starting out on Finland's Firebox Records, they became the first South American band to join Season of Mist. Streams Inwards brought them international attention, tours with SÓLSTAFIR, SWALLOW THE SUN and SATURNUS, and festival slots alongside OPETH, ENSLAVED and KATATONIA.
The band say they are "thrilled" to be back with the label after more than a decade away. According to MAR DE GRISES, the new songs keep pushing past genre lines: they describe them as dark and cinematic, shaped by the contrasts of a country that stretches from the Andes to the Pacific and from the Atacama to Tierra del Fuego. "The wait is over. Mar de Grises are back!" they add.
The album title, release date and other details have not been announced yet; the label promises more news soon.
Before that, MAR DE GRISES have two shows in Santiago: they headline Cryptic Celebration VII next week and then open for OPETH.
2026 dates:
- October 30 — Santiago, Chile @ Teatro Cariola (Cryptic Celebration VII)
- November 1 — Santiago, Chile @ Movistar Arena (with OPETH)
Lineup: Juan Escobar (vocals, synths), Rodrigo Morris (guitars), Sergio Álvarez (guitars), Rodrigo Gálvez (bass), Pablo Martínez (drums).
