Mapuche groove metal band MAWIZA will release their first-ever acoustic EP, IÑ MONGELETEW ("Those Who Give Us Life"), on all digital platforms on November 6 via Season of Mist. The first taste is the new song "Wüzapiwken" ("Divided Heart"), which arrives with an official music video.
The five-track EP combines two new originals with three songs from the band's Pulsar-nominated 2025 album ÜL, rebuilt around acoustic instruments, tribal percussion, pifilka flutes and the kultrún drum. "Wüzapiwken" deals with indigenous life split between the city and the native land, and the band deliberately keeps it harsh and dark rather than pretty. "MÜR", which we covered when it came out in June with guests Mira Ceti (HEILUNG), Anne Olsen (DANEFAE) and Mapuche activist Fabi Hidalgo, also appears on the record.
The release follows a landmark night for the band: in October, MAWIZA joined SEPULTURA at the Brazilian legends' final show in Santiago, Chile, and the two bands performed "Kaiowas" together on stage. That acoustic SEPULTURA classic is the spirit behind the new EP.
Drummer Txalkan called SEPULTURA a cornerstone of MAWIZA's own music, a band that pioneered drawing on the ancestral wisdom of indigenous peoples and using metal to put social and ecological issues up front. Playing "Kaiowas" together, he said, felt like "a torch was being passed to a new generation".
Vocalist and guitarist Awka explains that MAWIZA can make music without distorted guitars and big percussion, "but not without our language and our identity. That is why IÑ MONGELETEW exists: these are songs given to the primordial."
MAWIZA will support the EP with an acoustic tour of Chile in November.
