Swedish death metal band MUTATION are streaming their debut album, Esoteric Order of Debauchery, in full via the Death Metal Promotion YouTube channel. The record is out tomorrow, October 9, through Hells Headbangers on LP, CD and cassette.
The Stockholm outfit took shape around 2019 as a shared idea between drummer S.N and guitarist K.L, both devoted to the rawest early years of death metal. Vocalist N.S, guitarist S.Q and bassist S.B completed the lineup in 2022, and Demo '23 followed the next year. It was Gene Palubicki of PERDITION TEMPLE who pointed Hells Headbangers toward the band, and the label signed them soon after.
The label pitches Esoteric Order of Debauchery as a deliberate step backwards in time: no polish, no modern sheen, just riffs, blast beats and vocals that sound dragged up from somewhere deep. The songs are short and savage, built on instinct rather than precision, with feedback and barely contained drumming left in the mix. In other words, MUTATION have no interest in refining death metal; the aim is to take it back to its most primitive, dangerous form.
