Italian doom outfit NIGHT GAUNT have premiered "The Deer and the Hunter," the second track to surface from their third full-length, Rupture. The album arrives on November 6 via Aural Music, and the new song is streaming now through No Clean Singing.
Formed in Rome in 2013, NIGHT GAUNT have spent more than a decade pulling doom metal toward darker, quieter corners. Rupture keeps doom at its core but moves through acoustic passages, dark folk melodies, post-punk shadows and industrial unease along the way.
The record was a long time coming. According to the label, the songs were reworked over several years, stripped back and rebuilt until only the essentials remained. It follows a stretch of touring across Italy and Europe, as well as personal upheaval within the band, and it was conceived to be heard as one continuous piece rather than a set of standalone songs.
"The Deer and the Hunter" sits sixth on the ten-track album. It follows "Of Clouds and Gleam," the opener, which arrived last month with an official video:
Rupture tracklist:
- Of Clouds and Gleam
- Strangers
- Struck by the Fever
- Ordeal
- The Revenant
- The Deer and the Hunter
- September Song
- The Antagonist
- Blooming
- The End
