NIGHTWISH have released a live video for "Tribal", filmed in Amsterdam in 2022, as the next preview of their thirtieth-anniversary collection The Greatest 30 Years On Earth. The set arrives on December 11 via Nuclear Blast.
"Tribal" comes from 2020's Human. :II: Nature., and the Amsterdam performance is one of the two concerts at the core of the release. As we reported when it was announced in August, the collection pairs that arena show with the band's 2023 homecoming in Kitee, adds live-in-the-studio audio from the band's virtual concerts, a large archive of photos from three decades, and a new documentary on founder Tuomas Holopainen directed by Ville Lipiäinen. The audio was mastered at Finnvox.
"The whirlwind of 30 years is still scooping up building materials and curios," the band says, pointing to new interviews, documentaries, remixed songs from Islanders Arms and the Human. :II: Nature. concert footage. "This is NIGHTWISH; the greatest years on earth so far!"
There is also fresh news on what comes after the retrospective. Speaking to Finland's Chaoszine, Holopainen said the next NIGHTWISH album has been in the works for months and that the band is "entering the studio next May". Separately, he has finished writing and recording a solo album; orchestrations with James Shearman are to be recorded in London later this year, with the record expected to be ready by spring 2027.
NIGHTWISH have not played a concert in more than three years, and Holopainen sees the break as a positive. "I just feel like the songs are coming like never before," he said. "I'm really, really excited both for the next NIGHTWISH album and the solo thing." In another recent interview he put the count of finished songs for the follow-up to 2024's Yesterwynde at seven.
