Norwegian black metal band NORDJEVEL will release their fourth album, Damnous, on December 11 via Season of Mist: Underground Activists. It's their first record for the label, which signed them in August, and the announcement comes with a video for the lead single, "Unbound in Death," which Season of Mist describes as one of the fastest and most intense songs on the album.
Vocalist Doedsadmiral formed NORDJEVEL in Askim in 2015. When guitarist Destructhor (ex-MORBID ANGEL, MYRKSKOG, ZYKLON) joined, the band moved from the melodic, folk-tinged sound of their 2016 debut toward something denser and heavier with death metal. Damnous follows Necrogenesis (2019) and Gnavhòl (2022), and the current lineup is Doedsadmiral, Destructhor on guitars and bass, Sagstad on guitars and John Longstreth on drums.
Doedsadmiral's lyrics deal with war, death, anti-Christianity and Norse mythology, sung in Norwegian and English. The songs swing between all-out black metal blasting, death metal weight and slower, melodic stretches. Guitars, bass and guest vocals were tracked with Kjartan Hesthagen at Studio Nyhagen. Fredrik Nordström, who also worked on Gnavhòl, mixed and mastered the album at Studio Fredman.
There's a strong guest list: Sanrabb (GEHENNA, DOEDSVANGR) sings on "Funeral Prayer" and the title track; Morfeus (ex-LIMBONIC ART) plays keys on "Damnous"; former member Nord returns on guitars and keys for "Final Flesh"; and Geir Bratland (DIMMU BORGIR) adds keys to "Pits of the Cold Beyond," a LIMBONIC ART cover that appears as a bonus track on the CD digipak. The cover art is by Khaos Diktator Design.
