Belgian black metal band OERHEKS will release its debut album, De Stroom, on November 24 through Amor Fati Productions (CD and vinyl) and Babylon Doom Cult (cassette). The first track, "De Vloed Vervloekt", is streaming now on Amor Fati's YouTube channel.
OERHEKS first surfaced in 2022 with the Cagghenvinna demo and have since put out five demos, two of them album-length, building a steady following in the Flemish black metal underground. The band is driven by the prolific Hans Cools, also known for his work in SILVER KNIFE, LVTHN and HÄXENZIJRKELL. Earlier this month we covered MISTS, another new Amor Fati act he is part of.
De Stroom runs four songs and 41 minutes, and its theme is water: the ancient seas, rains and floods that shaped Cagghenvinna, the Demer valley and the Hageland region, and the river's endless journey from source to flood. The label describes music that is ethereal and violent at the same time, pagan in spirit and rooted in old local lore without being stuck in the past.
The visual side got as much attention. The cover and layout take their cue from classical and soundtrack LPs of the '70s, '80s and '90s, with artwork by Pierre Perichaud, photography by Davy Prenen and layout by Dan Fried.
OERHEKS will celebrate the release with a show in Antwerp on December 4, joined by HÄXENZIJRKELL and IHLOOSUHREE.
