Los Angeles industrial metal band SKUMLOVE has signed with Candlepower Records. The first single under the new deal, a reworking of THE SMITHEREENS' 1986 song "Blood And Roses", arrives on all major digital platforms on October 31.
Founder and frontman Skum Love says the original touched him deeply, calling the late Pat DiNizio one of the world's best songwriters and pointing to the song's tug-of-war between mental health and love. It took him years to work out the version he heard in his head; the aim, he explains, was to build on what DiNizio created without losing the message, and to open the song up to a new generation.
The track was recorded at Michael Ciravolo's (BEAUTY IN CHAOS) Saints In LA studio in Sun Valley with production help from Kevin Kipnis, and mastered in Los Angeles by Grammy-nominated engineer Maor Appelbaum.
SKUMLOVE mixes industrial, goth, post-punk, metal and electronics around its creator. The project grew out of the LA underground — homemade recordings and self-released CDs — into a nationally touring act that has shared stages with DANZIG, TYPE O NEGATIVE, PRONG, STATIC-X, FEAR FACTORY and MINISTRY. Over the years the band has worked with Dino Cazares, Burton C. Bell, Tommy Victor and Tony Campos, and its recent releases include "The Dark", "Ego" and "Ride Or Die".
