SOILWORK have released "Night Whispers & Shining Lights", a new single that rounds off the Helsingborg band's 30th-anniversary year. It lands while the Swedes are on the road across Europe with AMON AMARTH and ORBIT CULTURE.
According to frontman Björn "Speed" Strid, the song isn't brand-new material so much as a buried treasure: he calls it "a hidden gem" that had been sitting in the vaults for a couple of years before the band decided it was the right way to mark both the anniversary and the start of the tour.
SOILWORK started out in late 1995 as INFERIOR BREED and took their current name a year later. Throughout 2026 the band has been running a month-by-month retrospective, spotlighting two albums at a time with unseen studio footage, rare material and behind-the-scenes stories.
The single also keeps the gap filled while the band works on the successor to 2022's Övergivenheten. Speaking earlier this year, Strid described the writing as more of a collective effort since the death of guitarist David Andersson in September 2022, with guitarist Simon Johansson — long a touring member — and bassist Rasmus Ehrnborn now fully part of the songwriting. Strid said he wants to bring back some of the heaviness of A Predator's Portrait (2001) and Natural Born Chaos (2002) and blend it with the atmosphere of the recent records. The album is set to be largely self-produced and recorded at Johansson's studio.
The previous standalone track, "Spirit Of No Return", came out in October 2024.
