Rotterdam's TEARDRINKER have released "Hereditary," the second single from their debut album I Hope This Hurts, which arrives on November 13, 2026 via Killjoy Sanctuary in conjunction with US label Fiadh Productions on LP, cassette and digital. The video was shot by band members Kimothy Hoorweg and Gijs van Teylingen and edited by Thomas Sciarone (GGGOLDDD).

The band call "Hereditary" the centerpiece of the record, both lyrically and musically. It deals with the cycle of sexual violence and the trauma passed down from generation to generation.

Vocalist and cellist Kimothy Hoorweg explains: "Learning about the long and dense history of violence against women, queer people and dissenting voices has been mostly empowering. However the dark side of all this is the terrifying, miserable and repetitive cycle of gender-violence. During the process of studying this I'd simultaneously be thankful for all the traces of resistance that people have left me, and be crying and grieving their pain and trauma at the same time. We are still facing these same systems of oppression and sometimes it seems like there is no way out."

I Hope This Hurts began as a commission. After a secret TEARDRINKER set at Roadburn 2025, the festival's artistic director Walter Hoeijmakers asked Hoorweg to create a new piece of music and performance for Roadburn 2026. The result explores patriarchal violence and oppression from personal, historical and societal angles, and musically fuses black metal, screamo, post-hardcore and spoken poetry. Its premiere was one of the most talked-about sets of this year's festival. The band then recorded the piece, plus one new song, in their own Rotterdam studio, with mixing and mastering by Role at Die Tonmeisterei.

Formed only in 2024 by members of VULVA, LIJKSCHOUWER and others, TEARDRINKER have also played Duister Collectief and released the demo tape Killing The Flowers Will Not Delay Spring. The lineup is Kimothy Hoorweg (vocals, cello), Matteo Cerroni (guitar), Rens de Boer (guitar), Noâh Elshout (bass) and Gijs van Teylingen (vocals, drums).
