Write for The MetalList: We're Looking for Volunteer Music Reviewers

26 October 2026  ·  General News  · By Scorpio

The MetalList is opening its doors to new writers. We are looking for volunteer reviewers to help us cover the flood of new metal releases arriving every week — from underground demos to the year's biggest albums.

Why now

Labels and PR agencies from all over the world send us promos every day: black, death, doom, thrash, heavy, progressive, sludge, post-metal and everything in between. Many of these records deserve to be heard, and right now there are simply more of them than there are of us. We'd rather give a great underground album a proper write-up than let it sit unopened in the inbox.

What you get

  • Early access to promos of upcoming releases, often weeks before they're out.
  • Your byline on every review, published on themetallist.com in both English and Ukrainian.
  • Reach: your reviews will also be shared across our social media.
  • A home for your voice at a webzine that has been writing about metal since 2003.

Who we're looking for

  • You know your metal, and you're curious about scenes beyond your favorite subgenre.
  • You can write a focused, honest review — what the record sounds like, what works, what doesn't — without padding.
  • You can write in English or Ukrainian. Either is fine; we publish every piece in both languages.
  • You can commit to a few reviews a month. No experience as a journalist is required; passion and a good ear are.

This is a volunteer role. The MetalList is an independent webzine run by enthusiasts, and that's exactly who we want to bring on board.

How to apply

Email us at [email protected] with the subject line "Volunteer Reviewer" and tell us:

  1. A few words about yourself and where you're based.
  2. The genres you'd most like to cover.
  3. A writing sample or a link to something you've written about music. No sample? Send us a short take (300–500 words) on an album you love.
  4. Which language you'd prefer to write in and roughly how many reviews a month you can handle.

We read every message. Come write with us — the riffs are waiting.
