TYPE O NEGATIVE's long-promised live album is getting close. Guitarist Kenny Hickey told Loaded Radio's Scott Penfold that he has nearly finished editing and compiling the concert recordings, and that the band is aiming for a release in the first quarter of 2027.
The mix is set to go to Mike Marciano, who engineered and mixed TYPE O NEGATIVE's records for years and now works from a home studio in Pennsylvania. The band already sent him "Love You To Death" as a test, and Hickey says it "sounded great." He explains the lead time simply: once the mix is done, a proper release still needs about three months of setup — not least because the album is coming out on vinyl, and pressing "takes months."
Hickey also confirmed that an unreleased song from the October Rust sessions will see daylight eventually. The track, which he believes is called "Prometheus," turned up on a reference cassette found by drummer Johnny Kelly; we reported on that discovery back in April. "I love it. And I don't remember it at all," Hickey admits, calling it "a medium opus" by Peter Steele's standards — the kind of song that, had it made the record, would likely have grown much longer. It will come out "at some point, in some format," most likely as part of a future reissue.
Kelly said earlier this year that the song wasn't strong enough for October Rust in 1996, but is worth releasing three decades on as a bonus track, provided the cassette transfer can be mastered to sound good.
TYPE O NEGATIVE ended after Steele's death in April 2010. Formed in Brooklyn in 1990, the band released seven studio albums, from Slow, Deep And Hard (1991) through Dead Again (2007), with Bloody Kisses and October Rust among the defining records of gothic metal. Earlier this year, "I Don't Wanna Be Me" became the band's first gold single in the U.S.
