German black/death metal outfit VERMIANAEVUS have made their self-titled debut album available to stream in full ahead of its physical release. 'Vermianaevus' arrives on CD and vinyl LP this Friday, October 30, through Amor Fati Productions, with a cassette edition handled by Sect Entropy.
The trio behind the project goes by Hekla (guitars, backing vocals), Karapan Darvish (lead guitar, bass, lead vocals, lyrics) and Exesor (drums). Little else about the band's origins has been made public, though the label says the material on the record was written several years ago before the lineup brought it to life.
Thematically, the album is built around a lunar mythology of its own: hidden caverns, cosmic devastation and creatures lurking in depths "where no light has ever entered since the dawn of time." Musically, it swings between blistering, bludgeoning black/death metal and slower, eerily atmospheric passages, spread over seven tracks and roughly 47 minutes. The first taste of the record, the near ten-minute "Tempest of Rampant Phrenesis", surfaced back in September.
Karapan Darvish also mixed the album, with drums and main guitars engineered by Birger Schwidop. Band photos are by Andreas von Retyi.
