AMARANTHE will begin recording their next album in about two and a half weeks, with drum sessions booked alongside longtime producer Jacob Hansen, singer Elize Ryd told Finland's Chaoszine. No title or release date has been set — "I am not sure when we will be ready, but it is in the making," she said.

The record will follow The Catalyst (February 2024), and according to Ryd it pulls back from the experimenting of the last couple of albums. "If I can say anything about the upcoming album, it's a little bit back-to-the-roots kind of Gothenburg metal sound," she said, promising plenty of the "extraordinary 'Gothenburg sound' riffs which we all love." Most of the material is already written, she added, so the direction is settled.

It will be the second AMARANTHE album with harsh vocalist Mikael Sehlin, who joined in 2023. Ryd first met him in 2015, when his former band ENGEL toured Europe and the U.S. with AMARANTHE. Guitarist Olof Mörck later asked him to add growls to some demos for The Catalyst, and the fit was obvious: his style is close to that of former growler Henrik Englund Wilhelmsson, and he can handle the old songs as well as the new.

The first new music of this era already arrived in February with "Chaos Theory", mixed and mastered by Hansen.
