Finnish melancholic metal band KANTALASYNDROOMA has released its debut album, 'Aavan suon tuolle puolen' ("Beyond the vast marsh"), via Inverse Music Group. The record is out now on streaming services and Bandcamp.

The band grew out of the end of LYIJYKOMPPANIA, one of the pioneers of Finnish-language melancholic metal. That band came to a close in 2022 after the death of founding member and drummer Esa Moilanen. In 2023 musicians who had played in LYIJYKOMPPANIA over the years formed KANTALASYNDROOMA to carry the legacy forward. They stress it's not a tribute act but a band on its own path, though a LYIJYKOMPPANIA song may still turn up at their shows.

Guitarist and main songwriter Petri Lindström says the album is built on "an old and proven foundation", with plenty of new material added while respecting tradition. "A few more shades of gray have been introduced to the palette, but we still refuse to pick up any colored pencils," he adds, noting that when it comes to the band's name, "those who know, know".

Lindström wrote all the music and lyrics, except the lyrics to "Toinen" and "Johtaja", which are by Marja Liukkaala. The band is already working on its next release; whether it ends up a full-length or an EP is still open.
