Finnish alternative progressive metal band SOMEHOW JO have released "Road To Nowhere", their first new music in four years. The single is out now via Inverse Records, the label that has handled all three of the band's albums.
The band say the song grew out of a period when its future was genuinely in doubt. In their words, the group came through "a long and arduous journey through the dark forest of the soul", and its "flame was nearly snuffed out by the howling winds". With that stretch of soul-searching behind them and a new member on board, they describe "Road To Nowhere" as a hard-hitting, cathartic track meant to capture the struggle: "Those who have been on a road to nowhere will surely know what we are talking about. Have a taste of our best rockmanship yet!"
The song was composed by the whole band — Sakari Karjalainen, Eero Aaltonen, Christian Sauren, Tuomas Honkkila and Lassi Peiponen — with lyrics by Aaltonen. Juha Nevala produced it, Matti Lötjönen mixed it and Jaakko Viitalähde mastered it. The cover art is by Tuomas Välimaa.
Formed in Ylöjärvi in 2009, SOMEHOW JO mix funk and progressive flavors with heavy, groove-driven riffing. Their 2015 debut 'Satans Of Swing' featured BATTLE BEAST singer Noora Louhimo on the title track. Second album 'TUSK' followed in November 2019, and its follow-up single "The Grey" passed 500,000 Spotify streams. Third album 'Scales And Details' arrived in September 2022, backed by the videos "Friend", "Fata Morgana" and "Rush".
The band's next show is on November 13 at the KULT stage of Kulttuuritalo in Helsinki, with STONED STATUES.
