KORN released "Life Is Peachy" on October 15, 1996, proving their genre-birthing debut was no accident. Recorded with producer Ross Robinson at Indigo Ranch in Malibu, the second album kept the raw, uncomfortable energy of the first while striking far harder commercially: it debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, sold 106,000 copies in its opening week and went to number one in New Zealand. "A.D.I.D.A.S." and "Good God" became nu-metal staples, while a chaotic cover of Ice Cube's "Wicked" featured DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno. Jonathan Davis channeled childhood trauma and tour-life ugliness into the lyrics, opening the record with the scat-vocal eruption of "Twist". Certified double platinum within three years and crowned Best Album at the 1997 Kerrang! Awards, "Life Is Peachy" cemented KORN as leaders of the nu-metal wave they had created.
