On April 23, 1960, guitarist Steve Clark was born in Hillsborough, Sheffield, England. As one of DEF LEPPARD's twin-guitar attack alongside Phil Collen, Clark was instrumental in crafting the massive, layered sound that defined albums like "Pyromania" and "Hysteria." His melodic sensibility and razor-sharp lead work on tracks like "Photograph," "Rock of Ages," and "Pour Some Sugar on Me" helped DEF LEPPARD sell over 100 million albums worldwide. Clark's guitar harmonies, meticulously constructed during the marathon "Hysteria" sessions with producer Mutt Lange, became the band's sonic signature. Tragically, Clark battled alcohol and prescription drug addiction throughout the late 1980s, and he was found dead on January 8, 1991, at just 30 years old. His death robbed metal of one of its finest melodic guitarists, and DEF LEPPARD have honored his memory at every concert since.
